WPDE: RIDE III is on track & RIDE 4 is in the works, Horry County councilman says
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Horry County's RIDE III project has been in the works since 2016, and while there are still three more years left on the taxpayer timeline to continue funding the nearly $600 million project, one Horry County councilman said they're not looking to slow down their next series of projects.
Whether it be resurfacing, paving or road construction projects, RIDE III projects are on track and making progress.
According to Horry County councilman Johnny Vaught, they're doing so well that they're ready to start the engines on a RIDE 4 project.
"Ride three is definitely on target; it's going ahead like it's supposed to," he said.
Councilman Vaught said as they've already started one of their biggest RIDE III projects, roadway improvements along Highway 501, and with the rest being on track with funding and their construction timelines, they're now ready to hit the gas on RIDE 4; something he hopes will help areas with heavy growth.
He explained, "They have to be local roads. So, basically what we'll be looking at are where are the hotspots, where does the money need to be spent first.
