About Johnny Vaught

Johnny Vaught was born and raised in Conway, South Carolina. After an extremely successful career in engineering and education, he has retired. Now, Johnny spends his time serving his community in a variety of ways. He has served on Horry County Council since 2015. Prior to this, Johnny was Vice President for the Horry County Higher Ed Commission for sixteen years, President of the South Carolina Tech Education Association, President of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, President and teacher of the Hut Bible Class and President of the Waccamaw Sertoma Club.

After graduating from Conway High School, Johnny served as an Electronics Technician for the U.S. Navy for six years. He attended the University of South Carolina and earned bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in electrical engineering. Johnny and his wife Margaret Ann raised four children: Jonathan, Jeremy, Emily, and John Kelly. The Vaughts are longtime members of First United Methodist Church in Conway.

Because of his extensive knowledge of engineering, Johnny has always been a classic car enthusiast. He owned and operated The Bird Nest Classic Car Restoration Shop and was a Sports Car Club of America licensed competition driver for several years.
